Partner Families

Tracy Hicks had the privilege of having her home dedicated on Dec. 19, 2009. Her home is located at 150 Lily Ruth Court in Shaw Habitat Village. It was sponsored by the ReStore, making this the 14th home the ReStore has funded, among other projects the store has helped fund. Tracy has two sons, Lane, who is 19 years of age and Caney who is ten years old.

On Oct. 24, 2009, the GCHFH affiliate dedicated the home of Brandi Cook at 138 Lily Ruth Court in Shaw Habitat Village. Brandi’s home was built as a Blitz Build and was primarily framed in one day. The Hot Springs Home Builders’ Association completed this amazing task Saturday June 6, 2009. Within the next two weeks the home was nearly finished. Brandi has one daughter, Justice, who attends Oaklawn Magnet School. Justice enjoys living in her new home and especially the wonderful safe neighborhood where she can play safely.

Tracy Bigby's home was sponsored by The Apostles Build, which means that 12 groups cooperated to build her home. Those groups were he following: Barcelona Road Baptist Church in Hot Springs Village; Christ of the Hills United Methodist Church of Hot Springs Village; Church at Crossgate Center; First Presbyterian Church of Hot Springs; First United Methodist Church of Hot Springs; Holy Trinity Church of Hot Springs; National Park Church of Christ; Oaklawn Baptist Church; Presbyterian Kirk in the Pines in Hot Springs Village; Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Hot Springs Village; St Mary of the Springs Catholic Church. Her home was dedicated on September 19. Tracy has four children: Julian, age 18, ShaQuese age 14, Davion age 13, and Tia age 9. Her home is in Shaw Habitat Village on Lily Ruth Court.

The McClendon Family Home was dedicated on August 22. This home was sponsored entirely by Charles and Peggy Goslee. The McClendons have five children: Kieshion, age 17; Deshion, age 15; D'angelo, age 11; Mariah, age age 9; and India, age 4. India is in a preschool program and Kieshion is in 12th grade, so their mother, Cynthia, has her hands full with grades and schools in between. Their new home is four bedroom and 1 and a half bath, bigger than most Habitat homes. The beautiful home is located on Lily Ruth Court in Shaw Habitat Village.

Nina Gordon's home was sponsored by the Coast to Coast Walk, The Arkansas Real Estate Foundation, and the local ReStore. It was built by the Carptentry Class of National Park Community College. Her home was dedicated on August 8. Nina has three sons: Theodis, age 15; Taevon, age 11; and Trenton, age 7. The Gordon home is in Shaw Habitat Village on Lily Ruth Court.

Gayleen Baxter moved into a refurbished home in Wheatley Village. Her home dedication was celebrated July 11. She is now living at 108 Kate St., a home we had to foreclose from a previous Habitat Partner. Gayleen is a security guard at Regions Bank. She met John Goodman though her job there at Regions and found out about H.F.H from him On the day of her dedication, many of her co-workers from the bank were there to give her support.

D.D. Holder accepts a sweet spire plants from Dee Baker of the Whitfield Garden Club of Hot Springs. The garden club gives each new GCHFH homeowner a new plant for their yard and plants it for them. This sweet spire is a native Arkansas plant that has beautiful blooms in the spring, sweet foliage in the summer and beautiful colors in the fall. It represents the best of the state in all seasons. Shown in the picture are on the left Judy Hella and Millie Stevekin from Brush Strokes Art Guild of Hot Springs Village, as well as Gordon Hegg, building supervisor to Baker's left, among others.

The quilt guild who call themselves the Sew Whats of Hot Springs Village make a quilt for each Habitat family. This is the quilt they made for Nicholas and Kadence Caldwell who live at 111 Lily Ruth Court. Their home
was dedicated on March 28, and the ceremony had to be held indoors because of rain. At last Nicholas can allow Kadence to play outside at her new home because it is safe here.

Board Vice President John Jenkins, Hazel Shaw, Chester Shaw, Gary Shaw, Teresa Cottrell all participate in the dedication of Teresa's home on February 21, a cold and blustery day. The Shaw family donated the property for Shaw Habitat Village on which 18 Habitat homes will eventually be built. This property is positioned atop a beautiful bluff overlooking Linden Park and backed by the National Forest. Homeowners here have gorgeous views and a secure setting, thanks to the generosity of the Shaws and the diligent work of the volunteers for GCHFH.

The home of James and Carolyn Thompson and their four children was
dedicated at 10 a.m. This home at 114 Lily Ruth Court was sponsored by the Hot Springs Home Builders Association and Funded by the GCHFH ReStore. Much of the building of the home had been finished in a "Blitz Build" last spring when the Home Builders Association worked non-stop for two weeks beginning May 31, 2008, to completely get the house nearly completed. The Thompsons' children are Cameron, age 8; Ca'Mirra, age 5; Camesha, age 4; and James, Jr,; infant.

The home of Olaf and Terri Negaard at 108 Lily Ruth Court was dedicated at 11 a.m. This house was sponsored by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and built in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity. The home was built with the help of volunteers from area Lutheran churches.

The first families began living in the newest Habitat Village in the Fall of
2008 when Garland County Habitat for Humanity dedicated two homes. The first
of these was dedicated on Sept. 27. It was the home of Tequila Summerville
at 107 Juniper Street. Tequila's home was sponsored by St. John the Baptist
Catholic Church. Tequila's family includes her three children: Marquita, age
14, Rongerald, age 8, and Aleric, age 1.

Just weeks after the dedication of Tequila's home, on Oct. 11, was the
dedication of the home of Gloria Salazar's home at 111 Juniper Street.
Gloria's home was sponsored by Southern Bancorp Bank of Arkansas. Gloria's
family includes her four children: Joshua, age 6, Jasmine, age 4, Angel age
2, and Annabella, infant.

Sophia and son Camren got into their new home just in time for Christmas and the arrival of the new baby in the family, little daughter Calie Rana. Sophia was just a week or so away from delivering her second child when her home was dedicated Dec. 15. Sophia felt that Christmas had come early for her family and she couldn't have been happier about it. Sophia is a certified nursing assistant at Quapaw Nursing Home on Carpenter Dam Road.

Susan Richardson and her three little girls moved into their new home in mid December. The girls are thrilled to have their own room, as well as a play room. Susan appreciates the luxury of having a room to herself as well. The family had to all sleep in the same room in their previous living arrangement. Susan is also pleased to have good neighbors who have children for her girls to play with. Susan has also made good friends with her neighbors.

Bobby Murphree's home was dedicated on Feb. 2, 2008. Murphree and Rebecca Fontaine will be married June14. The Murphree home is decorated to reflect Bobby's love of hunting and outdoor life. He has placed a deer head on the living room wall and has a mural of a sunset on the adjacent wall. Murphree's two daughters are excited about the new home. Ivory attends Hot Springs schools, but Samantha who lives with her mother except on weekends attends Jessieville School.

Completing Wheatley Habitat Village is the 15th home, that of Brenda Hammock. The home was dedicated March 15 at 11 a.m. Participating in the dedication were the local chapter of Woodmen of the World who financed the house and the carpentry class of Paul Scrivner from National Park Community College who did much of the construction of the home. National Park Community College President Sally Carder spoke of the pride the college feels in being able to work with Habitat for Humanity. She also announced college scholarships for both Hammock girls when they are ready to attend college.

After the dedication of Wheatley Habitat Village to the volunteers and other workers, and of the Picnic Pavilion in honor of Lynn Kuykendall, Jhonnie and Candiac Scott and Helen and John Selig treated all guests and village homeowners to a feast of barbecue with all the trimmings. Shown here are homeowner partners Bobby Murphree and children Ivory and Samantha visiting with homeowner Pam Arnold as they go through the food line. Arnold's children Miracle and Greg are just ahead of Pam in line. Many board members and other guests attended this event on Feb. 26, 2008. 

   

 

Wheatley Habitat Village now complete with 15 Partner Family Homeowners

Wheatley Habitat Village is now complete with 15 proud new homeowners. Dedication for the village was on Feb. 26, 2008, with Karen and Ken Wheatley, who donated the property for the village, in attendance. Also participating in the day's events were the family of Lynn Kuykendall in whose honor the picnic area of the development was named. The fifteen families who comprise Wheatley Habitat Village are the following: Kyra Sears, Belva Chavez, Ken and Ronda Miller, Jhonnie Scott, Teresa Campbell, Shirlene Dodson, Mary Barron, Valerie Buckley, Charity Reyes, Jason and Susan Rumfield, Susan Richardson, Sophia Young, Pam Arnold, Bobby Murphree, and Brenda Hammock. The dedication for the home of Brenda Hammock, final homeowner for Wheatley Habitat Village, was March 15 at 11a.m. 



Shaw Habitat Village is now underway to house our next 18 Habitat Partner Families. Look for the first of these dedications coming soon.
